Building 6143 Mold Remediation & Interior Rehabilitation

PWE was selected to execute a comprehensive mold remediation and interior rehabilitation project at Building 6143, Fort Sill, a fully occupied military facility requiring precise coordination, phased execution, and strict adherence to federal standards.

The project encompassed extensive selective demolition and reconstruction across multiple wings, floors, and functional spaces. Work included removal of contaminated drywall and insulation up to eight and nine feet above finished floors, treatment and stabilization of existing metal stud framing, and full reconstruction using moisture-resistant, paperless drywall systems designed for long-term durability in high-humidity environments.

In addition to remediation, the project required significant architectural and systems upgrades, including new fire-rated door assemblies, access panels, shaft wall replacements, plumbing chase remediation, ceiling reconstruction, and replacement of shower floors, walls, drains, and waterproofing systems across dozens of shower rooms. All shower renovations incorporated modern waterproofing membranes, ADA/ABA-compliant thresholds where required, precision sloping for proper drainage, and finishes matched seamlessly to existing conditions.

Execution was performed under strict operational constraints, with the facility remaining in use throughout construction. PWE carefully sequenced work to limit disruptions, maintaining access to critical areas while coordinating closely with the Contracting Officer’s Representative and building occupants. Only a limited number of shower bays were taken offline at any given time, requiring disciplined scheduling, daily coordination, and constant attention to cleanliness and safety.
The project demanded rigorous compliance with U.S. Army, USACE, EM 385-1-1 safety requirements, detailed submittal and as-built documentation, and exacting quality control standards. Every phase—from microbial treatment and firestopping to tile installation, painting, and final clean—was executed by a focused, experienced team with an emphasis on precision and accountability.

This project exemplifies PWE’s ability to manage complex, multi-trade rehabilitation work in active military environments, delivering durable, code-compliant solutions while minimizing operational impact—true to our philosophy of Under Promise and Over Perform.
